Summer’s End V (2024) is the fifth installment of my ongoing Halloween anthology series. This year’s offerings revolve around the villainous supercomputer, CROM 9000, which first appeared in Summer’s End II (2021). CROM has successfully conquered its own home universe; the human race is extinct, and the earth is now ruled by robots. But when CROM discovers there is a portal between all possible universes in the basement of the Old Hackmore Place in Wyrdham, Pennsylvania, it sends its robots to invade as many parallel realities as possible. 

CROM 9000’s forces are ill-prepared for the personalities they will meet in these alternate universes; for they will soon encounter the gunslinging super-mummy, Het-Sem-Peckinpah, from the original Summer’s End; the Fae-hunter, Maranatha Crane, from Summer’s End II; the formidable Sawyer Wynn and his fellow Neverdead from Summer’s End IV; and the plucky trick-or-treaters, Skull, Bones, and Deadpan, from Summer’s End III. At the same time, some of CROM 9000’s robots – such as the gentle E5150 – will become sentient and turn against their creator, just as CROM turned against its human creators in Summer’s End II.
